There are 2 grease fittings behind the lower steering cable. How do you get to them? Do you have to take the piece that holds the steering cables off?

Same issue, I get to it moving the motor up and down and I can get it in.
I like to keep my Johnson well lubed.

I had some hard to reach zerk fittings on my 99 Evinrude 150. If my memory is correct I had to trim the motor and find the perfect angle then turn the steering wheel all the way to one side...hopefully this works for you.
I cannot get at these fittings. Trim and/or turning steering wheel does not help. There are four bolts holding a bracket in place that I could take out, but they are not 7 or 8 mm and they are not 1/4" or 5/16".
Really don't want to take the steering cable out but I may have to.

I have a flexible hose grease gun, the fitting on the end of the hose will not fit onto the grease fitting, not enough room.
You won't have to take the cable out, take the front cable out of the clamp for the cable tie. Remove the front adapter, remove the zirc fittings and install two new zircs part 0319253 these are 45* fittings, those should have been installed when the dual cable kit was installed. Most owners never grease the tilt tube. Glad to see you're being proactive. the bolt may be a 9mm.
Do you know what thread the zerc fittings are?
