I've done this the last couple of years in the Oklahoma panhandle. Found it to be a lot of fun and a test of the guns abilities and my marksman. I've used both .223 and .22 cal to get the job done, but thinking about exploring other calibers as well. What's your caliber of choice and gun type?
Rem. 220 swift and 22 nosler are my choice if I'm not shooting .223
It's hard not to shoot .223 when they are .30 cents vs. $1.00 plus for other ammo.
Always used 222 or 223 both or ideal for the way we shoot them. Usually from 40 yards out to about 300 yards.
I agree about the .223 concerning cost. Honestly though I usually shoot V-max that are more expensive. Recently have been looking at .204 ballistics considering giving that a try. Just returned from a trip and had the opportunity try some 300 - 500 yard shots. That was interesting.Originally Posted by brownbassslayer
Shoot a 223, 22-250, and a 204. The 204 gets blown around in the wind a bit more than the other calibers, but if it is calm it is a blast to shoot. Shoots about as flat as the 22-250, but you can watch your shots through the scope. Almost no recoil, this is with a heavy barrel rifle with a brake.
Not been but on my list of things to do. My dad goes and loves the 17hmr. Still days of course.
My Son in Law took his 17wsm this year. It worked well out to a couple hundred yards but it was too windy to expect much more than that.
22 Hornet
We shoot them with our bows. It is some great practice to walk around shooting them.
i prefer a suppressor on a 22lr pistol at 50' and less
