Boat Deck Lightening - What Color?

Just wondering who all night fishes and uses the LED light system on their boats? If so, what color is best for the night? I remember using red all the time at night when in the military, but also found that these lights come in blue and green. Which is best?

My boat is red so I'm automatically leaning towards using red LED's but if its not a good choice for night fishing I definitely won't go that route.

I believe red is generally considered to be the least disruptive to your night visit after your eyes have shifted to the dark. That being said I went fishing with a friend who was using a green LED head-light and I didn't find it to be at all disruptive and threw the light quite effectively. I am personally leaning towards red on my boat however

Military uses red because when the light reflects/absorbs it looses so much of its intensity making it harder to pick out from a distance, night vision uses green because it IS the easiest to separate shades for the human eye

i have a red and white boat I'd go red all day haha

Ya, saw the dimmer switch....I'll see how it looks first without the dimmer...I can always get it later if needed.

No dimmer is fine with a full moon, take that away or add clouds and dang it's hard to see away from the boat, I'd get a dimmer

FWIW no matter what color you use, you need a dimmer. I have blue lights on deck and dimmed I can see fine without hurting my night vision. No LED really attracts bugs because they get attracted to the heat of lights more than the wavelength, at least from my experience.

I prefer green light for all night ops, hunting, fishing, whatever. Like red, it leaves your night vision intact, I believe it is less disruptive to wild life and looks more natural in low lumen levels, and frankly I believe it attracts less bugs.
