    2002 40ELPTO

Not sure of hours but this motor has been really good to me. This weekend hit a piece of wood coming across the river. No change in rpms. Next spot jump I noticed a hollow sound but running. This morning, running to first spot about half way there, sounded like it dropped out of power band rpms up but only idle speed. I have done zero testing, it poured rain here all day, as I'm typing power is out. At weigh-in someone mentioned possible reed plate?? Thanks for any input.

Ended up being just a plug. Compression and leak down were fine. Thanks Joe54 for the help.

So I've had this motor back out a couple of times and there is something wrong. It's just not the same as it was for for the 16yrs before this. With it checking out ok at mechanic the only option I see is to run it till it blows. I wouldn't feel right selling a motor i know has a problem.

Mechanic is highly recommended, tops on East coast. It's just frustrating but it is what it is.

No. They went over lower unit at mechanics it all checked out. I'm going to change prop for my tournament coming up (another veterans deal). I can hear the difference in the exhaust. It just sounds different. I wish I could explain it different. It's not crisp 2 stroke, it sounds more hollowed out. Can really hear it on the down throttle and motor drops into idle.

So it ended up being the lower unit. Gears ended up coming apart during the above tournament. So it sits. Not spending 2k for a new one. May buy one over the winter of eBay.
