    200 520 dvx chime walks over 66-67

This is a new to me boat 2000 520 dvx bass masters classic and the biggest bass boat i have ever owned. No Jack plate , 225 optimax and temptus plus 25 pitch. Have tried to make sure weight is pretty well distributed and today had both tanks just a little over half full. Boat runs like a dream to right at 66 mph. Over that is gets a little squirrelly. I have had it up to 69 but just could not drive through the chime. I know I need to spend some more time behind the wheel but does anyone have any suggestions?????

Make sure the bolts on the transom and jack plate are tightened to spec, check for play in steering. Try running with the motor at different heights....

Honestly you probably just need more seat time.

He doesn't have a jack plate. Seat time is all you need. A jack plate would help for sure but since you don't have one you'll just have to learn to drive it and then you'll never notice it

From what I have read that is about what these boats should do. I have a buddy with a 2004 with a evinrude 225 and his has very little to no chime about the same speed

If that 69 isn’t from a gps it isn’t 69 with a standard 225 opti trust me. I got same boat and have tried a butt load of props and my engine was running excellent. Best i ever got was 68 with a empty boat and fuel tanks almost empty. We won’t start a war on max engine horse power but i now have a 250 pro xs and with a 25p tempest it will do 72/73 half loaded and 74/75 with my 25p fury 3 blade and 71/74 loaded with my 25p fury 4 prop. You need drive time a learn how to counter steer. Mine will start to chine at 68/69 and after that its one hand driving.

It is a old gps (funny to watch it fire up) but is a gps i think it is pretty accurate. So far just had it to 69 just the once but had to back out pretty quick because of the walk. Actually just cleaned out the spedo yesterday after I got back from the lake so not even sure it works.

I saw 71.2 gps once with my 2002 520vx running a 25 pitch fury on a 225 proxs. That was with about 1/2 of a tank of gas on one side and just me at about 150 lbs. might have been running down current too. Don’t recall. But honestly nowadays I see about 68 lightly loaded.

Thanks guys for information. I just blew up my other boat so am going to try to not be a speed demon.( This may be really hard to do). It runs so good at 60 mph at about 5000 RPMs that I should just be happy with that.

I didn't know you could get one of these to chine walk. Mine definitely won't with the amount of tackle I carry :)

So fixed my problem no more chine walking. This is what I did. Fishing partner 270 pounds, he brings at least 100 pounds of tackle, beverages, and ice. With live wells full only about 64 top speed. No more problem.
