1988 ranger 363v with 2018 yamaha 150 sho - engine set up HELP!

I need some help on engine/boat/prop setup. Just repowered and Here's what I have :

1988 ranger 363v
2018 Yamaha 150 vmax sho
solas 14x23 (3 blade stainless)
No setback plate
Prop 5" below pad
balanced load, 2 people, full fuel, tourney load
Solid hole shot
WOT 5900, 63mph (gps)
water pressure is 25psi
1/2 trim (flat) no roster tail

Poor boat handling if I trim above flat, which is 1/2 on gage, at lower rpm's boat porpoises, at higher rpm's boat chine walks. I cant seem to get up on the pad and control the boat.

I have owned this boat for 28 years with a xp150, 24 shooter 4 blade prop. Could get on pad at 3/4 trim with low roster tail and have a very stable ride. After repowering with the Yamaha 150 sho, this boat seems very trim sensitive.

Any suggestions on motor height and prop to get my stable boat ride back.

#1 get a 6" jack plate so that engine adjustments are easier. Raise motor to 3 1/2"s below pad and test.

Do you think my existing dual cable will accommodate the 6" jack plate?

I put a 6" rapid jack on my basscat and had plenty of length with the stock steering cables (Mercury). I bet you will be fine with your existing cables. I love ranger 300 series boats. You are going to have a sweet boat/motor when you get it set up right. Good luck.

A. get a jack plate and raise it up as stated above.
B. You'll probably need a 24p prop cause when you get the motor up, you'll gain rpms.
C. Get you a good prop. Solas is not the best prop for any set up. It most likely is the cause of the porpoising and the poor handling at WOT. Your prop is your connection to the water. Poor connection means poor performance. A tempest would run good or a fury 4.
D. You added weight with the new motor and your gonna move it back with a jp. This also changes balance and handling characteristics. Might have to move weight around to help compensate.

Just to follow up. Before I purchased a jack plate, I raised the motor up 1 hole, which moved my pad to prop height from 5" to 4 1/4". No more chine walking, and I can cruse on plane down to 30mph without the porposing. WOT and top speed unchanged, hole shot a litter slower but still good, water pressure is around 22psi. Boat climbs up on pad with a roster tail the height of the motor. I tested it on a calm day and at 60mph (gps) can release from the steering wheel and the boat runs straight down the lake.
