Nitro 912 Savage setup help please

I have a 1996 nitro savage 912 20ft 6in with hydraulic jack plate and a Mercury 225 efi. I had a 4 blade trophy plus 25 pitch on there with 2 open holes and 2 holes with open plugs and in struggled to get out on plane. I just put a 3 blade tempest plus 25 pitch and it still struggles out of the hole. I currently have 1 solid plug in it and 2 open holes. Jack plate is set where motor is about 2 inches from the ground but when I take of with the tempest it almost prop washed when I get it all the way on plane so I have to let off the throttle and get back in it and the hole shot is better but still bad. I just want to get better hole shot but a good top speed at the same time thanks for help in advance.

That's a funny hull to setup. The extreme distance from the pad (the very bottom of the hull) to the transom is huge. Then add the fact there is the limited room to move with the distance means you're sorta screwed on motor height.

It's a screwball design, and the only way we got one to run decent was installing trim tabs. Along with your hydraulic plate, you can get it up and gone in a reasonable distance.

Your tempest should be the ticket.
Just like anything else on setup, take it too far and bring it back. Start with prop plugged enough, then start yanking plugs until it blows out and back to last configuration. That's the only way you'll know what's best for your setup. Every single boat/motor/prop/load is different.

Wouldn't the 25P be just a little to much prop for that rig Pat. Would be helpful to know the WOT rpm at max speed. Iam thinking a 24 tempest with a little more cup from half way up the blades and on the tips to tighten the water Colum

If holeshot is the main thing you want. you can't beat a properly set up Bravo. No 3 blade can even come close. You may be 1 to 2 mph slower than a tempest, but you can holeshot great no matter what load. Get a Bravo with 1" more pitch than a tempest.
