    Rainy lake

Rudapa and I just got back from our annual trip to rainy in Canada. The lake gets better every year. The smallmouth were stacked on points chasing the one who had the bait. We caught over 400 for the week, yeah we kept count, and 108 fat ones alone just yesterday. Unbelievable fishing!

Love the small mouth. What does it cost an American to fish in Canada?

Doesn't really cost that much if you find the right camp, do your own cooking, and don't hire a guide. I've fished Rainy for 25+ years and you can spend a week there for less than a grand.

Rainy is on my bucket list.

We hit LOTW a few years and had a great time catching musky and smallies.

I have also been going to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota/Ontario for 25 years. I agree that the trip costs less than $1,000, when gas was around 4.00 per gallon the trip was right at 1k per person, it is slightly cheaper now. That price is for a 1 week long trip with 4-6 people splitting the cost of a cabin.

We bring our own boats. We cook all our own meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and may go out to eat one night of the week for dinner. Groceries for the week run $100 per person. Fishing licenses cost about $100 because we need Minnesota and Ontario where we go. Cabins vary between $700, up to $1,500 depending on the lodge you stay at. The rest of the cost is gas for the truck and boats. Last couple years have been about $850-$900 per man.

Last year my dad and I fished Rainey and stayed on the US side. This year we are going back but to the Canada side. My dad likes to target walleyes more but I do some small mouth fishing as well. Beautiful lake !

Yep pretty cheap trip you ask me. We stay at a nice resort, bring a bassboat and each of us bring 3 meals a piece that all we need to do is heat up after we come in. I think last year it came to like $700 a piece.

We rented a houseboat for a week and pulled the bass boats behind the houseboat. Had a great trip and would love to do it again. It is a beautiful lake with many small islands that you can pull the houseboat up to to spend the night. Caught walleyes for dinner then targeted smallmouth and caught a bunch of big pike along the way.

Little Canoe camp was still there two years ago. I have stayed at Cascade Camp for 20+ years, but it is getting pretty run down last stay.
