    Gelcoat Repairs

I need to repair some Gelcoat scratches in my 2010 Puma FTD. I have the flake I need from Basscat. Do I need a vinyl ester clear gel or will any clear gel work?

Any clear Gel is gelcoat at this time. Vinyl Ester is the resin in the fiberglass that makes it extremely tough.

A 2010 model Puma is not a vinyl Ester boat either. That started again in about 2015, and ended in 2003 model year. Those years between 2004 and 2014 have some models with a vinyl ester blend, though not anything like todays VE product. Those before 2004 were started in 1998 and they were totally VE from 1998 through 2003. Today's Premium models are about 60% Vinyl Ester and it is totally in all those outside laminates. Boxes, parts, transoms and floors are not Vinyl Ester, though a proprietary blend of other resins.

There is the description and chronology.
