    Dobyns Champion extreme HP

Looking for a new jig rod. Have narrowed it down to the Dobyns Champion Extreme HP. Can't decide between the 745 and the 795. Any suggestions?

My opinion you'll be happier with the 745...unless your looking for a flipping stick. I use my 795 for fishing heavy grass, more punching type stuff and the 745 for isolated cover (brush, docks, etc).

Yeah. I mostly fish cover and docks. Do a little dock skipping. Lay downs things like that.

The 745 will suit your needs more so than the 795 if you are just fishing lighter cover. As mentioned above the 795 will be a better choice for punching and heavy cover.

If you think the 745 is not enough rod for you maybe the 746 is another option. I think I read Gary himself uses the 746 for jigs.

    745. 795 is a great punch/grass rod.

I thought the 745 was a little stiff. Traded it for a 744 and it's perfect for me.

This is the rod I would choose also. I'm actually in the market for one now. If I was going to be out throwing football head jigs or making long cast throwing any jig I would get the 784 Mike Long jig rod. I'm wanting one of these also. I love my Dobyns rods. I could easily spend a grand on new rods if I could afford to buy anything I wanted.

The 745 is really an awesome jig rod. I had 3 at one point but ended up selling them and going with two 744 Champs this year - this new champ model is made specifically as a jig rod and have a great action with just slightly more give which I personally like in a jig rod. The 795 isn't too handy around docks, its for punching and more open water grass etc.

I have a Champion Extreme 744DX for sale, if anyone is interested. It's the older model.
