    Ranger experts...

Got a friend looking at two boats....one is 1998 ranger 518 vs with 200 hp the other is 2000 461 vs with 175 hp. What was the difference in size and performance of the two? Fishing kitty? Rough water? Overall performance? Thanks in advance money is the same price

461 was a great rig. Dont think it has a cooler, right? Strange that the 4 series was made after the 5 series so I would check on the actual mfg date. The motors also would have a big impact on my purchase...

    What motors?

I owned a 461Vs and loved the boat. It is probably one of the best 18" hulls ever built.

461 was 18’9” and 518 was (in 2000) 19’ even. Hence the difference in horsepower rating. I have not personally owned either hull, but from reputation both are fine boats. At that time, nearly 20 years ago, they were considered excellent for rough water ride. They still are, but the 20 and 21 footers typically excel in the really big stuff. Just imo.

weren't the 4 series kept around a while before the 185,195, 205 ect... for more budget minded options after the "5" comanche series came out. I know some of the earlier 518s had the "older" 4series style layout on the decks, with a newer exterior design. basically the 5 has more features, custom colors, all that and the 4 will be a bit more basic

I had a 481v and the 461 is very similar to it except the 461 has that built in setback. 461's were great boats and they are generally very fast for an 18' class boat.

I ran my 1996 461VS for 19 years and it is an awesome boat. It ran 63 GPS with two guys and a tourney load. For an 18 ft 9" boat it rides very well.

Have a 462 and there was a cooler directly in front of the drivers console, but I converted it to a tackle locker and use a small Igloo under drivers console for cold stuff. Made a locker where the extension was on the front deck and that helps.

The 461 has a cooler. I converted mine to dry storage. Love it!
