North Florida Mercury Mechanic recommendations...

Hey guys, I bought a 1989 Ranger 361V with a Mercury 150 XR4 that is the same year. I am in the process of refurbishing it and I need the motor looked at and evaluated/repaired. I contacted Lester’s Outboards based on a recommendation, but he is backed up for a while. Does anyone have a mechanic they recommend that is familiar with these older Merc’s? Or best to Wait on Lester? I heard he has a lot of experience with these...

Any info would be appreciated....

Governors creek marine, in Green Cove Springs. But they are backed up about 3 weeks. Also Isle of Palms marine, in Green Cove Springs. They are also backed up a couple weeks.

We are in Orlando and are only about a week out right now. Got caught up a bit with some of the rain we had. XR4's are very basic and we have 90% of those motor parts in stock. Might be a drive but won't take as long as some others. I am mercury certified and we are a Mercury Dealer as well!

I just wanted to add that based on these recommendations I took my tilt/trim issue to Lester's Outboards. He fixed it properly, fast and fair. Will be going back.

Other than Don Weed, Jeff is the only man I'll let touch my Optimax. Don and Jeff are the best there is, only problem is Don is a pretty good distance and Jeff is a couple miles. Both are Mercury master technicians.

I have spoken to Lester at Lesters Outboards in the past, but he was always backed up. The last two times I have called and left a voicemail, I have not received a call back. I know he is slowing down on the amount of stuff he works on and stays busy. I am going to try to give him one more shot, but if I can't get him, I will start making phone calls to some of the above recommendations.

I second Charly at River Marine. He did a good job for a friend and just did my 100/hr service.
