I admit this is a weird one but I had to post it somewhere

I have a new (2018) fibrglass bass boat loaded with all the toys.
    Ultrex /15" Solex's/ Power Poles/ everything.

My habit after catching a bass is to rinse off my hands.
Every time I touch the water I get a shock, every time. This is like charging up on carpet and touching someone, that kind of shock.
I want to know what could be the cause, the carpet?
    The trolling motor?

My first answer is the batteries are not connected properly. Check and make sure that "if" the cranking battery is grounded in any way to a trolling motor battery, it must be the battery that carries ground to the trolling motor.

"This is like charging up on carpet and touching someone, that kind of shock."

THAT kind of shock can be thousands of volts.

Unlikely a wiring issue, at most on bass boats 36volts. But I have seen weird things before!

I am betting on carpet. Try wearing different shoes, maybe.

Is your trolling motor running (prop spinning) when this occurs?

Turn off the electronics before you dip. See if it still does it. Try doing it before you catch a fish. Maybe you pisssed the Fish God off.

Yep. Are you seeing any white stuff on the LU of the outboard or TM?

Easy way to prove if it's static from you carpet . Try taking your shoes off when fishing and see if you are still getting shocked when touching the water . Your shoes act as an insulator and could be allowing you body to charge up like a capacitor from the carpet and discharge when to touch water giving the static charge somewhere to discharge . Do you have padded decks under the carpet ?

The high humidity on a lake makes the idea of static pretty absurd. Your batteries are wired wrong.

Assuming it’s not local water conditions, it could mean there is a connection between your TM batteries and cranking battery at the wrong point. A built-in jump start system is a common cause. But in the Southwest it could be a lot of calcium in the water you fish.
