External gps location?

Has anyone mounted an external gps in the bilge area before? Were you still able to pick up gps signal?

I have a Point One mounted to the top of my gas tank, reads fine through the fiberglass.

I mounted mine on the top plate of the jack plate and it works great. It is mounted directly above the transducer.

I have mine mounted upside down to the splashwell cover, works fine and no drilling into the fiberglass but does not have a HS. My HS puck is up front on the deck for my bow unit.
