    merc's 8 cylinder

Since it hasn't been asked here in the Champ forum......for those with "Any V6 ratings", what are your thoughts on Merc's new 8 cyl?

Not sure how I could get one hung and rigged, because its obviously not a v6. Kinda bummed about that as I did think about re-powering...

Put it on...the intent was anything a V6 could produce (300+HP). Putting a 250HP V8 on the boat would not be a problem.

If your rigs over 20 foot you can run what ever you want.

No HP limit and no floatation required on rigs over 20 foot per coast guard regs. The tag is factory recommended max hp.

Forget the v8, get a SHO! Yes I'm biased since I work at a Yamaha dealer but still, they're the best 4 stroke

I've a 221 with a 300x. Been waiting to see what the new Merc lineup would be. The 300R is appealing but I wish they had cleaned up the steering assembly at the motor, similar to the G2. Just what I've been able to hear on UTUBE the motors are not as quite as I would have thought. Looking forward to taking a closer look.

That is not a true "coast guard" tag, coast guard only regulates capacities on boats less than 19'11.99". You can run whatever you want. Even insurance companies don't care they base your premium on top speed.

Just throw the 250R on it and you should be rolling.

Absolutely, and Merc had to add 2 cylinders to compete with the V6 Monster...Flashed mine and those 8's will have a hard time getting by me.

The new Yamaha 5.6 liter V8 425 horse weighs almost 1,000 pounds.

$16,400 at Jacos Marine. A Mercury 250 will still be less expensive than a Yamaha 250.
