    Well I survived my first worm gear bushing/bearing swap... lol

    Actually overall wasn't too bad, all the teardown etc was typical stuff.. that damn c-clip though... I put it back on 3 times and it bound up every time (worm shaft gear binding on the ar cog) . Finally figured out I wasn't getting it quite in the groove but under it on the shaft, somehow which pulled the gear over. Anyway 4th times a charm.

    1 down, 5 to go

    I've seen a few posts lately about the worm gear bearing install, what exactly is the benefit to doing this?

    It makes a more solid smooth retrieve. IMHO.

    LOL. Then you remove it. Clean it. Re oil it. Reinstall it. Like any other bearing in a reel.

    Yep, that was my point... more maintenance. Worm gear bushings have never been a problem for me.

    I understand what your are saying but I enjoy working on reels.

    Use the right oil, and it will not do that for a looooooooong time. Plus, when you properly service a reel, you break the reel all the way down anyways.
