HI guys me and a buddy will be in the Chicago area for a few days and I would love to fish some awesome northern SM waters. ANy recommendations? Would like to stay within a 2 hour drive or so of Chicago.

Not sure why you are posting this on the MI board...you would be at least 2 hours just to get to the MI line then more time to get to any decent SM Lakes. You should just fish LM in Chicago call this guy to see about a charter Ralph Steiger you can find him on facebook or call 219-688-3593

Agree with Tom. You would need to travel to Wisconsin for decent smallie fishing if your limit is 2 hours from Chicago. If you can't get out on Lake MI then Lake Geneva, which I haven't fished for 30+ years and does get very crowded during Summer or the Madison chain of lakes (Mendota, Monona, Waubesa) - all have smallies.
I would just go another 30 min and hit sturgeon bay! will be best smallie fishing you're close to.
