    2006 Ranger Z19 DC Setup/Trim Question/Crazy Bow lift

    2006 Ranger Z19 DC Setup/Trim Question/Crazy Bow lift

    2006 Ranger Z19 DC
    2006 Yamaha 225 hpdi VZ225
    Bobs 8" hydraulic Jackplate
    8' power pole
    4 31 series agm batterys
    36v 112lb fortrex

I have a new to me Ranger i just got do to the passing of a good friend and after running the boat now a couple times i have some questions...

I have owned a couple of bassboats and have experience with setup and understand the operations of a boat but never owned a Ranger..

I feel the boat should have more top end speed then it does..

Heres what I've tested so far...

    Dry Boat
80lbs of tackle 50 of which in the rear compartment drivers side
    10 gallons of gas
    I weight 200lbs
Pad height with plate down is 4.75"

    Test 1
    Yamaha Turbo TXP 14 3/4 24p
    Solid Holeshot
    5600 rpm
    67mph

    Test 2
    Yamaha VMAX T1 15 1/8 25p
    Slightly slower holeshot
    5600 rpm
    65mph

Now this is at a fuzz less then 3/4 trim...

this is the only boat ive ever owned that i can't go full trim on.. its crazy to me..

Heres how i run it and maybe im doing something wrong..

Trim and plate all the way down..
Pin throttle and out of the hole..
Go about a quarter trim up and it eats hard..
Up to 40 in no time..
hits 50... more trim about to half..
    Pulls hard to 60-62
little more trim shy of 3/4 top speed achived..

Raise Jackplate 1 inch with either prop... 6000 rpm... No increase in speed...

The trim is crazy... if i add more trim i get a ton of bow lift and i mean a ton... its aired out period... ive never seen a ranger get as much bow lift as this thing does... the boat gets real squirrly... doesn't gain anymore rpm really...
and actually lose mph.. down to 62..

The trim is where im totally confused.. Ive never owned a boat i couldn't go full trim on... or ridin in for that matter...

I've owned a Javelin Renegade 20 with 225 that went 74 and some stratos that ran in the 70's... always full trim..

    So my questions are...

1.) Any thoughts on the bow lift/trim excessive lift??

    2.) Any prop thoughts??

I know Rangers are not speed demons, but with how it runs and pulls to top speed it seems like it want to go...

I would like to see 70-72 out of it...

    I'll stop rambling now...

    Thanks

Lots of Rangers will over trim and lose speed. I’ve owned two VX 520, a z520 and a VX 518,all would lose speed at full trim. I think they over trim due to so much built in set back and excess trim causes them to catch so much air that the wind drag slows them down. I would try a Tempest + 25 or a Fury 3 24”. For what ever reason,Rangers seem to like them.

That's a good point.. there's is a lot of set back.. I'm just lookin for 70... and I think it's totally possible with the right prop..
