225 Mariner new block, composite reeds exhaust tuner

    Talked with my mechanic

he is getting me a remanufactured clock assembly
new sleeves, crank, rods, pistons everything

I am looking at having him install Carson composite reeds

to help acceleration on bottom and mid range

also putting a Bob’s exhaust tuner on it to help it breathe a little better

    any experienced with these?

I doubt either will provide much in performance gains. Reeds will save the powerhead should it ingest one. 3.0 liters have a good tuner already and the aftermarket ones are loud. Until you do some serious modifications to the powerhead, I would stick with the stock tuner

What year 3.0 do you have?

needs a 4 hole front, and tighter heads, before it will show any gains,if ya' know anybody that can grind and flow blocks, the tuner can easily have a ton of slag, and piss poor casting lines, ground out of it,and flowed better. or just get a stock 250/300pm tuner, and grind away.

If this is your only concern, get higher compression heads. By far the best bang for the buck. Increased compression and/or reprograming will require 91 octane fuel
klrbee has a lot of good info that would apply in your case
    Contact Eric Simonson about reprograming.

Exhaust and intake change may actually hurt the bottom end torque
In all case the boat setup should be done first, there a lot of good info on this site that can help you
