    Mercury’s New 4 Stroke 250 Pro XS V8 Beast

And it weighs only 5 pounds more than a 250 Pro XS. It will come in 250 and 300 models replacing the 2 stroke and inline 6 Verado 250 and 300’s. Price will be about the same as the old 250 Pro XS but if ordered with the power steering (instead of the regular hydraulic steering) and digital hot foot it will cost more.

mercury four strokes must be pretty good, fished a marina the other day, and out of the 14 boats with four strokes 1 was a Honda, three were Yamaha's, one Suzuki, the other nine were Mercury's.

Snoopy, this is a totally new motor, unrelated to those other engines. No doubt merc sells a bunch of 2 and 4 strokes... These may be the best thing since sliced bread, but we won't know for a little while until people use them. That's all I'm saying. But I do like the fact that the opti is being replaced with a 4

understand, just going by their previous four strokes, it going to be a good one, as far as opti's go have had two different ones in the last 12 years without a issue.

Can anybody name a motor in the 250 class that hasn't had issues for the first couple of years? Will this one be different?

Other than some initial software tweaks, I haven’t heard about many issues with the G2. Looks like Merc copied the G2’s aesthetics..... lol

Isnt the G2 the second version of the motor. The one that had all the power head and lower unit issues.
    Hence second generation!

Honda has had issues also, pulley tensioner was recalled, and a fuel leak issue.

According to an insider that I know, these motors have been around for a while and have been EXTENSIVELY tested (Don Weed says over 20K hours). Supposedly they were to be introduced several years ago but EPA changed the emissions standards and prevented the introduction. I would buy one now without hesitation.
