In many four strokes they have a cross hatch pattern in the cylinder walls that helps the rings wear in. If you don’t get a good break in, the cross hatch is worn off without the rings seating fully. But, I have no idea if that’s how your motor was built.

Interesting, with a V8 only making 250ish HP. Sounds like lots of potential for more power from in the future. Wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Simmons or maybe even HydroTec get some big HP out of the engine.

They are advertised as V-6's, not V-8's.

The Pro XS's are V8's. The regular ones are V6's.

Yes,me too! Like when auto makers change styling,I have to let it grow on me a bit. If I can except the looks of an E-rude,it will grow on me. Main thing is it's reliability and power!

The Fusion/Plasma sprayed on cylinders are in a lot of engines. Some motorcycles, some automotive and from i'm told they are in some big diesels as well. IMO the big problem is you can't run an outboard above (approximately) 140 degrees. All others are running in access of 200-220 degrees. The outboards are using lake, river, sea water with all the minerals and contaminants in it. The water evaporates out at the higher temps causing the minerals and such to be left in the water jackets in the block.
Water cooled with closed loop, i.e. radiators or heat exchangers can help this. But on a water to water heat exchanger the fresh water side still has issues. They will loose heat transfer and completely stop up after a period to time with calcium and such. All this said, break in is tough in some cases but it can be done.
