    Ranger Trailer Lights

Hooked up trailer lights to truck ,trying to get things ready for season. The directionals, brake lights work, the side markers do not. they were on for a few seconds ,then went out ,both sides.
Time to rewire or look to see where bad or loose connection is ?

I was referring to the tail lamps. Running and marker lights are same circuit.

Possible you lost both lamps, check at fixture for voltage, work your way back.

Are they these marker lights? I have a 1996 Ranger trail trailer and my red markers quit working, if you pop the lens out you will see two pop rivets that attaches the base to the trailer, the rivets also ground the light to the trailer and will corrode. drill the old rivets out and run the bit through the hole in the trailer to clean it and re rivet them in and they will work, at least that was the problem with mine. Also check your ground on the trailer tongue. you can buy those marker lights base and all at any auto parts store, led ones to boot.

Looks like it's time to get the meter out , do some crawling around. Hope it's only a bad or loose connection .

90% of all trailer light issues are a bad ground.

Doesn't really seem strange. The directional lights and marker lights don't share any wiring.

Your side markers, tail lights and the three rear markers are on the same circuit. Which ones are working and which aren't? If they are all out, it sounds like you blew the fuse in your truck.

Except ground. Still sounds like you lost the brown wire, are you SURE the taillights still work?

No ground then no lights would function. He states he has brake/directionals. Unless backfeeding thru other filaments.

Leave trailer uncoupled, just attach wiring, see what you get. Everything should work uncoupled. Just easier to troubleshoot this way.

Could it possibly be 1 burnt out bulb affecting the others ? From lighting up ?

Mark, one burned out bulb shouldn't affect the others. Are you saying your main tail lights work when you have the headlights on but all of the clearance / marker lights do not? I'm not talking about the turn signal / brake light function, just the tail light. Just to be clear, when you turn your headlights on, you should have clearance lights and tail lights.

What about the taillights? This is the most important thing we need to know.

Get a Meter or a test light. Test from front to back starting at the plug on the truck. The BROWN wire is the hot wire. Turn the truck light ON. Test light will light or meter will read 12 +/- volts. Second, check the trailer plug, when plugged in. Should read the same. If those check ok, then start checking at each light. Where ever you DO NOT read voltage or the test light shines, you'll find where the problem is and will know what to fix. Also check your grounds. You must have power and ground for the lights to work.

Fuse blew in your truck is my guess. You have bare wire someplace.
