The 2.5 liter 200 has a hard time getting this big old boat up and moving. A good hydra foil will help some. If you prop it to get a good hole shot it may turn too many rpm's at WOT. I think that engine will turn around 6000 safely.

I run a 25 tempest on mine, I have tried the Fury both larger and smaller and larger and smaller tempest, the 25 tempest is the best that I have found, I have even played with different size vent plugs and it I found that it cannot be run without any (to much slip) and different sizes of plugs don't really matter when you are trying to get it on plane faster, I made the mistake of running a full tank of gas once,, (never again) I love my old 901 CDX because it is a tank. Trim Down, Hit it and Wait... that's all you can do..

I would look at one of the Chris Bailey foils. Seems like that product has a good reputation of doing what it was designed to do.

I run both a 23 Tempest and 25 Tempest and never above 1/2 fuel tank. She's a lead sled. With the 25 Tempest on, my co initially sits between the consoles to get on plane. Its dangerous, but it works.

if it is efi 200 it is the 2.5 liter small block. not the same as the 3.0block on the 200 opti. the 2.5 can't turn the same prop. it lacks low end torque. I ran the same rig and it stinks to set up. I got in touch with the Nitro factory rigging department. 23 tempest is the prop needed. if I can find the sheet of paper it gives setup numbers. a foil will help some but it really is underpowered with the small block.

I had better luck actually easing it onto plane too rather than mashing on it.

A 3.0L 200 Optimax runs that boat much better than the 2.5L carbed engine.

with e 2.5 liter you might get 63ish. maybe.
the 2.5 liter 200 is the same block as the 150hp class motors.
the 3.0 200 opti (there are some EFI 3.0 liters as well) is the same block as the 225.

pitch of prop doesn't always mean the higher pitch the faster it will go. You have to be able to turn the pitch to max rpms in order for it to translate to speed and the 2.5 will not turn the 25p on that hull. the hull is much too big and heavy. others hulls and brands maybe, not the 901.

besides that, I sure did love the 901 boat. it is a fishing machine, just a tank

Mine on a cool morning 25 p fury will run 66-68. I’ve seen 70 very light. Good hole shot 3-4 seconds on a tournament 3.25 inches 3.0 optimax

I have the same boat, with the 200 opti. 25p tempest, 68.4 with me and my 8 year old. 65.5 with two grown men and tournament load. Only one vent plug in the prop.
