    good deal on charcoal

I want to share a good deal that I found at my local Walmart this weekend. I just bought a 30 lb. bag of lump charcoal for $9.99! The name of the charcoal is "Western". I cooked with it last night and the results were in my opinion excellent. The chunks are medium in size, with some large, and very little small chunks mixed in...They started up easy and burnt quite well with decent controllable heat. Enjoy!

Picked up a bag, gonna try it. Usually buy Kingsford on Memorial Weekend, Lowes and Home Depot have 20 pound double bags for 9.99.

Woo, that stuff burns hot. Cooked some thin cut pork chops in 5 minutes. I thought it would make more wood smoke flavor than it did. Reckon I'll buy a few bags while its on sale anyway.

Lowes had I think 30lb bags of Kingsford for 9.99 a bag I think. I don't think it was lump though.

I used Kingsford for years. They have some other brand in a red and black bag that is half Kingsford's price and works better IMHO. It's kinda shaped like a dog bone. I don't miss Kingsford. If you want smoke flavor throw a chunk of hardwood in and after it starts burning, blow it out and kick it over to the side away from the coals.

I'm using the same lump that just did 21hr brisket @225 and then threw a whole bologna log on for 3 hour after and finished with 400° sear on the bologna slices. Making hamburgers tonight, raised grate 400° with no extra added lump

Kingsford is all filler and chemicals. All it does is make too damn much ash. Quit that crap years ago
