think bad guy will let you rack a round in? and I'm betting most aren't fast enough to rack one if a situation arises.
I carry a Kimber 1911 full frame sometimes and its Cocked and locked with a round in the pipe. and even at that I still have to take a safety off to fire. which is still a little more than I prefer. biggest reason I would rather carry a striker fire gun

I don’t own a single firearm that isn’t ready to go as soon as I get it out. All rifles, shotguns and pistols have a round ready. I might be a little over board, but as stated, when things go down there’s only a few seconds.

Maybe in your eyes but this thread does show that most here are willing to help out and give their opinion on this subject.

Yes with one in the chamber. However if you own more than one brand as I know many people it's important to know which one you have on you at any given time. They all incorporate different degrees of a safety in their handguns.

If it's not ready to go bang when you need it, you might as well be carrying a stick.

I was in a swamp bottom and the under growth was pretty darn thick. I could hear them in the water crossing the run headed my way. Knew i was only about 75 yards max from a peanut field and being on a pretty good foot path i turned and ran with a machete in one hand. I was 50 yards out into the field when i heard them clear the woods line behind me so i knew i could not make the truck so i stopped and whirled around pulling my weapon all in the same motion and dropping to one knee. Dropped the leader at 45 yards and his side kick at 40. #3 made it a couple yards closer before his life ended. #4 paused and showed me his ivory at 30 yards and his life ended there also. Lastly, #5 had already wheeled around and was headed back where they came from. Fired and missed him so, i squeezed off my last shot hoping not to let any get away. It hit right below the azzhole . He made it back to the tree line before he expired. Flipped the cyclinder open, kicked the spent rounds and popped the speed loader in and headed to the body's. Walked up to the first one i shot, he was flopping around trying to get up and i sent him to be with his friends. Always have your weapon ready to use where ever you are and no matter how rough the party gets.
