    Question lower unit gear lube?

Curious is there more pressure on seals the faster you run? Chance of losing lube at idle vs. wide open?

You should not loose lube at any speed. If you do you need to reseal the lower unit.

I'm suspicious of leak but don't notice anything at home. Talked to mechanic said I should be ok idling and then check.

Most of the HPDI lower units that were on boats that ran 60+ would loose lower unit oil. Both seal lips face the water side and just guessing that allows lube to leak out under way. Seems like a common problem and we would just top them up part way through the season. CJ

I was told by mechanic one seal faces in and one faces out. I'll be keeping an eye on it and might take it in to get checked for peace of mind.

Mine has lost lube since day one. I keep it topped off and change once or twice a season . Lube always looks great and no signs of water infiltration or leaks. I guess a small amount is escaping through the seals.

I have HPDI LU on my OX66 and I always loose lube. But not a drop of water in it. Just lube gone. I just check it, refill it and go on.
