Ultrex install?? 2012 puma FTD

Hey guy my motorguide bit the dust. I have rebuilt 2 in the past 3 years, so I bit the bullet and ordered an ultrex. Is there anything I need to know? Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I asked Rick this exact question at the Classic. Main thing is remove the plate where the troller plug goes so you can hold onto the metal plate and nuts that reinforce the trolling motor from the underside. It would also be a good time to order and install the new style battery tender plug.

Hey man,

You may want to check with BCB, but the front end on our boats may not have changed till 2014 and the ultrex will fit but you may have an issue with opening your port side rod locker when the motor is stowed. BCB made some minor changes at some point to accommodate the larger Minn Kotas. They are sweet motors though. I used one for the first time this past weekend.

I put a 52" Ultrex on my '13 Puma FTD, it blocks the hatch from opening up all the way, but there is still plenty of room to get rods in and out. The usefulness of the Ultrex greatly outweighs any minor issue with the lid.

Ok I will definitely check that. What about spacers or isolaters between the motor and the boat. Does it come with them?

Should you use 6 bolts on the Ultrex or is the 4 that was on the MG sufficient?

Four is fine with the existing holes should you use the backing and top plates, through bolted and nylon nuts.

If I ever install another there are two things I would do differently...

Disregard the instructions and install the swing arm mount first and then install the trolling motor. It was a huge PIA to mount that big heavy unit all put together.

Scrap the supplied Phillips head screws for some stainless steel hex or Allen head screws. Be sure to use anti seize on the stainless steel mounting screws.

You may have to remove the starboard side plate on the Ultrex to expose more mounting holes to line up with the holes in the boat that were there for your MG.

Yea I am hoping I can use the same holes... Also I did order the new battery tender plug. I think I am going to buy some stainless hex head bolts and nyloc nuts instead of using the Phillips head screwdriver that are provided.

10-4... Have not even got it in yet and and wanting new graphs. Would love to have autochart. Most of the water I fish has next to no mapping available.
