    Repowering my Coral 202

In the market to repower my 2002 Viper Coral. I'm on the fence between a Mercury 250 Pro XS or the new Mercury 225hp V6 fourstroke. I'm not that concerned about the top end performance. I really just want reliability and good gas millage. I'm nervous about being an earlier adopter of the new Merc. Price is almost the same. Not much info out yet. What do you guys think?

I normally wait a year when something new comes out but it might be okay to go with the new 4 stroke.

Thought about it. I currently have Merc controls and smart craft. Not sure I want to spend additional $$ replacing it all.

I bet that new merc is more than the cost of a 250ss with controls... Plus I'd be scared to go that route until they get bugs settled on any new model.

Been waiting on the Mercury announcement of the new four strokes. This just made my decision even more confusing!? All four stroke options. 225 V6 or 250 V8 or 225 Pro XS V8 or 250 Pro XS V8?

I don't know which one would be the most reliable, but the 250 ProXS would darn sure be the most exciting

Agree. The 250 Pro XS is the one I want, but it comes with a premium price tag. +2700 more than a 225.

My 250ss was around 18700, with controls and prop. I priced a 250 pro xs at 18k with my controls. I wanted something 4 stroke and reliable. I wouldn't trade my Suzuki for a Mercury... But word is they tested them a lot. I'm not sure what one would cost you.

I just priced a 250 V8 Pro XS at Jacos Marine and it was $16,400 without controls. They made this engine so if you already have a Mercury then you can use those controls and not have to buy new controls. I don’t think the controls are that much.

Shipped to your door? That's another cost? It ran near 18 with my controls through jayco. There was an interface that was required for the old analog controls. I think that was a couple hundred.

Controls were for $700 if needed. Spoke with Kim about the engine. She said that they have to ship it to an authorized Mercury dealer. Couldn’t ship it to my house. Shipping cost to my dealer was $325. I am thinking about repowering as well. Some really nice people there. I spoke with Kimlee.

That they are. I spoke with them as well. If you install it yourself, you can save but I was looking at 18 or 18700, when counting install. I went 250ss. Love it, but one of you guys get the new merc and tell me how you like it. I may buy a new boat in a year or 2 and somebody needs to test them before I get to that point... But that being said, I'd have a hard time not buying a Suzuki.

Gotcha. My local dealer quoted me $450 to install. So with shipping to my area dealer the total for me would be around 17, 200 since I don’t need the controls.
