Some luck mounting factory transducer "through hull" of my tin

I know a lot of people say that you can not mount a standard Factory transducer through hull in a tin boat. I tried my factory transducer from the in-dash Lowrance hook 4X that I have on my boat, the transducer was a skimmer type for the transom mount. Mounted it in using vaseline as a temporary adhesive. Took it out yesterday and the picture is a reading at 35 miles per hour. Readings were better at lower speed, and very good at idle speed. It did show bottom at around 45, not as well, and then kind of disappeared after that. I am happy with the strong enough reading at 35 miles per hour, since when I'm in unfamiliar water, I usually don't go over that speed anyways, and only use the hook 4 for knowing depth while running. I use the console mount Helix 9 for everything else. So I will now clean up the mess that the Vaseline made, and permanently mounted with a two-part epoxy.

    Awesome!!

Remember when you're mixing the epoxy...bubbles are the enemy.

You don't want any bubbles between the ducer and the tin.

Good luck and please let us know how it goes and maybe post up some pics.

    ** I really like the woodgrain dash...classy.

    Size doesn't matter.

it's actually pretty darn good for a skimmer transducer, at 35mph, shooting through an aluminum hull!
most posts I've read state they completely lose reading once on plane.
SCREW buying a $150 "Alumaducer" that some have no luck with!!!

I think he was referring to the size of your unit.

If you can get it to shoot through go for it! Figure if I'm running faster than 30 I'll pucker up.

Pretty sure it could shoot through without a problem... Did you see the balls on that thing??

I do the same...pucker and slow down...waiting for that first little bump you get just before you run aground...you know the one...the "What was that?" bump...then another quick bump...then all hell breaks loose!!! BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM...dry ground.

If you can catch it on that first bump...you can save yourself a lot of $$.

Plastic seems ok, it’s aluminum hulls that the transducer has problems reading through, especially heavier gauge hulls,

Looks like you got plenty of room in the console for the Hummin'bird, why don't you just replace the Lowrance.

The Helix is a SI model, & ducer is above running water line, only used for searching very low speeds & off plane. i like the small unit in dash for knowing depth at running speeds.
I've always used 2 different units for 2 different purposes. One for searching, one for running.

also, there isn't room, if you want gauges to stay..... Gauges are double info gauges, and they're not going anywhere

Also, I will never have an expensive "indash" unit (never have, on all the bassboats I've owned). Too easy to get stolen while doing an overnighter somewhere. I like being able to take my good stuff with me into the room.
