Today was the first day of my 2018 season after a long and bitter winter and it didn't disappoint! A few friends and I piled into the boat and headed for some walleye on the Detroit River. It was slow going but managed to get a few for pan and then headed into St Clair for some prespawn smallies.
It was incredible! One of those days that you always remember and wish every outing was this good. We managed to find some water in the 42-46 range which seemed to be the ticket based on others saying 39 was the best they could do. There was 4 of us on the water today and it seemed like someone was calling for the net every few minutes. We boated over 40 smallies and most being in the 2-3 lb class with 3 over 5 lbs, 1 6.2lb and 5 over 4.
I can't even begin to explain how amazing it was after such a long winter and dreaming of soft water, but this was the perfect answer.
Hopefully many of you got the chance to get out and experience something similar, but if not, it won't be muc longer. I would have been just as happy to be on the water without the incredible fishing but it turned out to be a day I won't forget anytime soon
Hope everyone has a great week!
