The UPS driver that delivers to my office lost his son 4 years ago at the age of 15. Collapsed during high school baseball practice and was dead before the coach could even get to him. Turns out he had been born with a congenital heart defect.
Jack (UPS driver) and his wife established a a scholarship fund in Jensin’s honor for students at the local schools who demonstrate a financial need for assistance with higher education, and they hold several fundraising events every year to help fund the scholarship fund, one of which is the Memorial Chili Cook Off. Apparently Jensin loved chili.
Jack pulled up in front of my office a couple months ago, and I was pretty confused because I didn’t have any deliveries coming that I knew of. Came in and asked if I’d be willing to help him out for a few hours and be one of the judges for his cook off. Told me I’d have to try a bunch of chili and warned that some of the entrants liked to push the heat envelope a bit. Seeing as how one of the only things I like more than chili is really spicy chili, I said hell yes.Thanks for taking part in an event for an excellent cause and please tell Jack and his wife thanks for creating the scholarship fund what a fine memorial to their son
