Changing oil Yamaha SHO 4 stroke

What’s the best oil extractor pump to use for changing their oil?

I have one just like this, works great, just make sure it has 7+ liter capacity

Take the side panel off and remove the drain plug. It’s really easy and you can ensure it all drains out. I have yet to understand the extraction pump idea since it’s so simple to drain from the side.

The Yamaha SHO 4 strokes don’t have a side panel the only way to get it out is to extract it with a pump

I have a 2013 SHO 250 and I drain it from the side every year. Unless the new ones have changed you can absolutely drain it from the side and then you don’t have to waste money on a pump.

Someone didn't show you how to change the oil.... The only problem with taking the side panel of the mid section, be careful when doing so and make sure the screws are not stripped when put back... My dealer replaces a few mid panels every year because once the screws get loose or worn, they can back themselves out because of vibration and when that happens water grabs it and it's gone....

Both ways work, people should use whichever they are more comfortable with

I like the extractor cause I never have to loosen/remove the side panels or drain bolt. I can also change my oil in about 10 min (15 if im really going slow) with no mess at all.

Bought the mityvac and getting ready to do my first change this week. Do you guys start the engine and let it warm before the change or can it be done cold ? If you are starting it are you running on muffs or the hose connector?

Those Allen’s that hold the side panel on are junk. I replaced mine with stainless hex heads so now there’s no issue

If you put stainless bolts in there you might better be sure to put some anti seize on them...if they get any moisture or corrosion on them which is very possible they could be a nightmare to remove... Then that could be a bigger problem..

Makes 3 years now with no issues.... my 8 mm socket works a lot nicer than those Allen’s. And yes anti seize helps even though I’ve never had stainless lock up like I’ve heard people say on here. Thanks

Question for you guys who pump out oil (I use the drain plug).

Using the pump, do you have to tilt the motor back and forth a few times to get all the oil out?

    Thanks,
