Finally looks like I got my wp issue fixed and low temp idle also...

Ever have a pair of thermostats go bad? 2004 Merc Racing 250xs

    S/N 0T819373

Since I got it it never got over 105 idling . Water pressure was always low too...

Cleaned Thermostats and same problem.. This year i wanted to be more pro-active a nd find out why it didn't ever heat up like it should..

Well... with some help from Sanderson Marine in Chester VA... I replaced both thermostats and wow... it works now..

Very strange to have them both go out but they did..*

Hope that can help someone else out sometime...

When you say bad, did you test they are opening before there setting or both of them just didn't shut off positively?

They appeared to open way early and never close or just never closed really. Boat would get up tyo say 95 max and just sta y at that temp. No cycles.. wp was about 1.5ish.

Now after changing thermostats.. temp goes up to 138 first time then wp drops from 3 to 2.5ish and temp goes down to aboutv121.. then the temp goes up to about 130ish and the thermostats appear to cycle as designed.

Fairley common especially with the sportsmater.. Just one of the t-stats not functioning properly for any reason will cause the same issue.
Need to watch the temp on these motors like a Hawk.. It can ruin a powerhead faster than I can type this.. Been there done that !!!

I did always let it idle a long time each run... maybe that was the saving grace...
