How much you looking to spend? I'd first reccomend a tatula ct in 8.1 ratio and 40/50lb sufix.

I’ve used everything from 6.4 to 8.4 for gear ratios. The faster the better.

Currently using a metanium XG with 65lb braid. I may swap out to 59lb though.

Any mid level reel that's 7 or so to 1 will do the job, just make sure that you've got enough of a spool for 50 or 65lb braid and backing. I use a Curado I and Power Pro. A lot of people don't like the "I" but I got it cheap and works just fine for froggin, no complaints. That or a Tatula can be found pretty cheap too. I used a 200B for probably 12 years before the gears finally gave up.

Looking to spend $200. How important are the drag numbers with heavy braid?

Abu Garcia stx 8/1 or rocket, specifically gen 3, 50-65 power pro original or max Quattro. 20-22 pounds of drag, no backing just some electrical tape cut in half and 2" long stretched over the knot

I put a Curado 201E7 with 60# PP on my dedicated frog rod. My first. Chose 60# based on opinions of others. May go lighter next time it needs changing. Reel doesn't have the drag pressure of some reels, but I guess that is what we have a thumb for. Left rod in Florida for future visits...but not the reel.

Imagine I have a rod or two at home that would work. I have several of the reels already mentioned plus some not mentioned that should also work. In particular I like the idea of trying a Chronarch 100B, Tournament MB, Gen1 STX and Concept A.

Revo STX 8.1:1 with 50# Sufix or Lew’s Super Duty 8.1:1. I added a 95mm Lew’s handle with large EVA knobs to the STX.
Perfect frog setup for me on an LTB 7’4” Frog-N-Slop rod.
