    4 blade prop on 187?

I have a 2003 187 with a Yamaha 150 and was thinking about trying out a 4 blade prop...anyone have any experience with 4 blades on that set up? I haven’t seen any info anywhere!

Only if you’re about to battle big nasty waves. Besides that your M or tempest will run better.

That’s kind of what I figured, from the lack of information on the subject. Now to find a 23 tempest to try while my 23M is off getting fixed!

I switched from 24p Tempest to a 25p Trophy plus 4, I gained a better hole shot and great stability at high speeds. I could run 62-63 GPS and it was squirrely. When I went to the 4 blade I'm getting 67 and very stable at high speeds. I will say I have not tried a 3 blade in 25p however so the speed is obviously gained from the pitch change. Also my boat is fully loaded and I needed better hole shot? My friend has you same set up on a 08 187 150 Vmax he is getting 56-57 gps outta my 24p vs the 23p he had on it.

Interesting, I wonder what hull and motor differences there are between mine and his. I run 56-57 fully loaded with my 23M.

There should be zero differences between hulls of 187s from year to year, since they use the exact same molds! Motor differences could be a real issue when trying to compare.

I think every hull is slightly different. The layout of heavy items is also different based upon the individual. Jackplaes are different. Motors are different. I had a 202 and everbody said Tempest prop. I ran a few Tempest props and that boat was a dog. I happened to find a Trophy+ with a Champion logo engraved in t and that boat ran the best with that prop (holeshot and especially top speed). I also like a Bravo II on my 198. Keep trying props until you get what you want. It can be painful, but also can be well worth the experimentation.

I can get on plane in 3 seconds with a Tempest 23p. 5 or 6 seconds with my Tempest 25p, but I get a mph or 2 on the top end with the 25 down on the Mo river. Its 3k ft lower in elevation. At home I'm a mile high so I use the 23 up here in the Black Hills. Great all around performance. Never tried a 4 blade.

I just noticed that the red & white 188 on the For Sale page has a 4 blade prop on it. But, it is wider and has a 3 liter engine on it. That's a sweet ride.

I have a Trophy plus on my 187 with a 175 and it seems fine. Runs low 60s and handles great. I know the Tempest is supposed to be faster or better but I'm happy.

I seem to have more issues than prop at the moment. I need to get some work done and get my prop fixed up right then figure out why I lose bite when I'm accelerating. I can play with the trim and throttle and get it to bite and drop rpm, then run it back up to WOT fine, but it loses bite around 5k. Step 1 is get the prop fixed, if that doesn't help I guess I need to play with motor height.

I had a 186 bass n bay with a 175 mercury efi. The old style 25 trophy was the best prop for my ride.

Some of the newer 4-blades don't loose much speed over a 3. But not all boats react the same even if they are the same size. I run a 4 most of the time, but still have my T-1 and will occasionally put it on and run it. It's only a couple mph faster on my boat. Cruising is better with a 4-blade most of the time. Tried a couple tempests on mine and one was worked by Mark. They were the worst of any I tried for speed but had a pretty descent hole shot. Go figure!
