Actually, this motor (if true) will have an extra 400cc's of displacement, which is a very good thing.

Based on the same technology used on the new 3.4L outboards this would not be feasible. A 4.6L V8 would have to weigh 70-80lbs more and that does not include increasing the capacity of the swivel bracket & lower unit. The 3.4L weighs 475+70 would be 545lbs.

I hope this matures into a production engine for the boating industry.

Even at 545 it's only 40lbs heavier than a 2-stroke Pro XS. Very manageable.

    Agree! My 300XS weighs 505 I think.

I would look at this new motor for sure if I have to repower.

Saw a boat with twin Omc V8s, it was an odd configuation since it was a cuddy boat, not a go fast hull. They were big!

i thought the Optimax would be built another year

    When I was young
    And in my prime
i used to drive fast all the time.

I could not get enuff horsepower
until it cost me a tank per hour.

    LOL.

I am glad we have fast boats, but I use my "speed" only to get to a safe place if a storm gets up.

be careful and safe. The margin of error is small
