Are boat engine covers supposed to be left on while running?

I would think this keeps more heat in the engine itself, by insulating the engine compartment, which could cause more wear. Yes, outboards are water cooled, but heat disaapated by air helps keep heat away from motor. Do these covers impede air flow into the motor? If so not good.

The thin fabric will have a very small insulative affect.

If you fish a lot of docks or in the brush, they are nice to have.

Mine is vented and I run with it on. It doesn't seem to run any hotter according to my Smartcraft monitor.

I have the vented cover from RMP.....what i do is use it to travel and fish areas where there is lots of trees/snags, etc. that could scratch it up.....when on bodies of water where there is no problem i'll remove it when fishing for the day...

I have the vented cover from RMP as well for my SHO. It's vented nicely and stays on 100% of the time.
