    1985 johnson vs 1986 evinrude

The 1985 Johnson mod# J140TLCOS AND 1986 Evinrude mod# E140TXCDC these 2 motors look the same to me however when crossing part numbers on 3 ignition parts: Stator, Timer base, and Power Pack the part numbers are different but physical appearance and construction are identical in my view. I was hoping to take the parts from the blown 1986 and use them on the 1985 motor. Does anyone know why these parts can't be interchanged What makes them different?

Why different part numbers? They will interchange if they are different part numbers? The pack should as well, they are built the same, look the same just different part number.

www.crowleymarine.com check out the fitment for the parts, they do get superseded but you do need to check the fitment. Now if you want to swap all three components from one engine to the other that will work. Meaning if you want to put all the parts from the 86 on to the 85 that will work or vice versa.
