    Heading sensor puck mounting

Anyone know if this puck can be mounted upside down? I am contemplating mounting one under the bilge lid. Wondering if anyone has tried this or knows if it will or won’t work?

    absolutely NOT upside down. Bob
At the very least you will have East and West swapped. Most heading sensors(if not all) will not give you correct readings at all upside down.

Not from each other but with the ultrex stowed,(out of the water) the sensor will have magnetic problems with the motor. Not an issue with the minn kota sensor as it is only used with the TM in the water. The HS- GPS will be used with the TM stowed I would assume.(use double faced tape to hold it temporary to try it) Bob

As mentioned not from the other sensor. Use an old fashion compass once you stow your TM to locate a clear spot. For me, the TM head created interference out 12 inches or so. My Ultrex sensor is on the plastic trim of the petal recess.

The Minn Kota Heading Sensor Instructions (2394900) also states (ref pg 2) "e. Mount the Heading Sensor horizontally. It should not be mounted upside down."

I installed my new Ulterra last weekend and placed the blue tooth heading sensor beneath my driver's console right side up. It paired fine and I am hopeful the location works well. I have two GPS pucks already-one from the Evinrude and one from 360. I really didn't want another visible puck.

GPS pucks need a view to the sky. A heading sensor doesn't.

Nothing for me, but it provides SOG to the ICON gauge:

Yep. I tried to network it via nmea2000 to Onix instead of adding the 360 puck, but I was chasing all the early issues with Onix and decided it was a complexity that was an unnecessary distraction.

Thanks guys dealer installed heading sensor in rear of boat. I told them I wanted 2 Hs gps pucks also one at bow and one at transom for in hull transducers. For some reason they installed one of the pucks at the console which serves no purpose. When I called them out on it they said it was do to interference from the ultrex heading sensor. It sounded like bs.

There may have been interference but doubt from the heading sensor. You can test the location with a compass to verify.

Would a 15* tilt or close, starboard to port, cause problems with the accuracy of the gps heading sensor on the transom? I want it close to the transducer and preferably not on the rear deck to be tripped over. Thanks

Try it taped down and see if it will. The cable just laying on the deck. If it works ok screw it down and run the wire where you can. Bob
