Upgrade from 24 to 36 Volt Minn Kota

I am posting a question for a friend of mine. He is currently running a 24V Fortrex and considering swapping it out for an Ultrex. He wants to go to 36V but someone told him that he would need to also swap out the wires from the trolling motor all the way back to the batteries. I was under the impression that he would just need to upgrade the fuse size. Can anyone confirm or deny?

    Thanks in advance.

Depends on a few factors. MK has published this information already. Google is your friend.

No need to change the wiring, the voltage may go up, but current (Amps) will stay about the same.

But just to be safe, as I have no clue the history of the boat. Check the wire gauge of the wire to be sure. 6awg his good, even 8awg would be fine.

See page 28 in the manual.

Thanks guys, I will have him check. I seem to recall him saying that it was 6awg when we were talking about it. It's a 2013 Ranger so I am guessing the wiring will be sufficient.

Good to go, no need to change. (If it is 6awg)

And if you need proof, have him look at the minnkota manual
