I fished it a lot earlier in the year, was really good then, but I don't fish it much after that. Bed fishing on DeGrey or Ouachita is starting to get good if the water temp will quit changing sooo much, did catch a 45lb stripper in January on a small jerkbait at Hamilton. It was fun on a 7' spinning rod with 10lb test line

just depends on what you want to do, I fish the Arkansas River mostly, but earlier in the year is when I go to the other lakes, Hamilton is least clear of the three, does have Smallmouth in it though, Ouachita does too but have to throw them back there

Hey Todd and Alli, what's the biggest line you can get by with on Hamilton....14?
Here in our dingy lake with all the stumps I ONLY fish with braid.....40 on crankbaits, 65 on chatterz'n spinnerbaits and 80 on Texas rigs!
LOL out of 15 rods I only have a few light actions!

You should be ok next month, the water won't be as clear the like it is in the winter , may be on a spinner bait or possibly a fluke by then, but if you go up in the river, it will be clear, could be some smallies up there

I never go bigger than 12. most times I use 10 and in some spots you may need 8. itll make a difference on how many bites you get.

I use mostly 10 on jerkbaits(when it's cold) but mostly I use 12lb Sunline floro, 14lbs on spinnerbaits, but I use 30lb to 50lb braid on shakey head or small jigs on a spinning rod

If I get time, I'll come find you, they should be on the main lake, but I don't fish there after February, but still would fish the river in the upper part of the lake

If the water bugs get to be more than you want to deal with, keep in mind that Ouachita is just a few miles up the road.

We we're at Ouachita last year and thought we'd try another this time. Maybe the chances of rain in the forecast will run some of'em off this week....besides, my fishing is not usually where there's high traffic!
