    Knots

Lots of us tie flouro leaders on the end of braid, for flipping and pitching, but also in some cases for casting longer distances.

I've always used the double uni-knot and have found it reliably strong. However, when I wish to cast longer distances, I find that knot a little too large going through the guides. Any suggestions??

Is there a better knot for my purposes? If so, can you give me a link?

Many thanks for any and all assistance.

I use a alberto knot for leaders, stronger than back to back uni's, and it is smaller.

Improved Albright/Alberto. It super strong and super thin. I would use the FG knot if big money as on the line, but I can tie 5 alberto knots in the time it takes the best pro to tie a FG and they are all tied perfect. FG Not worth the time IMO. If your fishing vertically you can tie a long leader, but if your casting don't let the knot go into the spool.

This is the real deal, easy to tie and real nice knot and small. I don't know why anyone would bother with messing with any other knot for tying on a leader.

I've played around with it. The uni-to-uni isn't much thicker than the FG knot. It's just longer. In both knots, you have the leader with the braid wrapped around it. The diameter of the line is the same, and it's still wrapped around it. I can tie both, but on the boat it's uni-to-uni. It's easier to just make sure if you're throwing a leader, to do it on a rod with standard size guides and not micro guides. Plus casting I don't use more than about 2-3' of leader, so you shouldn't be going through many guides anyways.
