I ran a 97 461 with a 175 Merc EFI. Came with a 25" Tempest and was an excellent all around prop.

So far, running a 24 fury. Just curious if there are quicker options.

25 Tempest Plus on a 175 Merc XRi pushes my 481vs to 63 fully loaded, 64 when light. Adding a 6 inch jackplate here as soon as it gets out of storage and expect to be able to see more than 65. I tried a 24 Fury and it wanted to over-rev, and I don't think mine would want to turn a 25 Fury fast enough at least without the jackplate (they're "stiffer" than a Tempest Plus of the same pitch).

Just wandering if anyone has prop to pad measurements that might help me figure this out. No jackplate at the moment and probably won’t have room to add one due to garage constraints. Motor seems like it’s mounted lower than my last one but it’s been some years. Running the 24 fury gets me 5700 and 60.8 mph. Not sure tach is accurate though. Just acquired a 24 tempest plus. Haven’t ran it yet. Should I see a decrease or increase in speed?

I am running a 98' 461vs with a 98' Merc 175 w/25p Tempest Plus. No jackplate. Will top out @67.4 on GPS with two people, half fuel, and full tackle. Livewell's full and both fuel tanks I am getting 64.9 mph. Outside temps upper 50's. Throw in a little heat in the air and my speed comes down a few mph to like 63. Hole shot is awesome no matter what load I have. Plenty of speed no matter what I am doing with her. Love this boat!

Tough to say. What's max RPM on that motor? That's almost exactly what I got running a 24 Fury so it sounds to me like the tach is right, but my motor's max RPM is supposed to be 5600. I'm 99% sure our motors have the same gear ratio at least. The Tempest Plus is going to spin faster than the Fury in the same pitch. Furys also like to run deeper than Tempests on most setups. I don't think you're going to be happy with the 24 Tempest Plus. Really think a 25 Tempest Plus would be your best bet.
