1997 Intruder 197 GLECD lower unit removal problems

Got the shifter in reverse, removed the bolt under the carbs on the shifter. Foot will not come off. What am I missing?

Nope. Shift rod had to be out back to neutral for clamp to clear.

I would suggest, if your going to work on this motor, get a real OMC service manual for your model number, what ever that is, before you do anymore work. You may be able to download one from the sticky at the top of this page.

No need to remove any bolts from the shift rod. Remove the cotter pin on the plastic linkage arm's front side and remove it from the shift linkage, shift to forward, remove the hitch pin on the rod and push the linkage to the left that will release the shift pin.

Champ, I did just that and the pin came loose from the shift rod. It is a little misleading to put in reverse instead of neutral or forward. It is off and in the shop. Thanks for all the help guys.
