    175 Yamaha SHO on a Ranger 461VS

I re-powered a 461VS with a Yamaha 175 SHO. Currently "trying" to run a 23 Tempest. 65 GPS at 5,500 RPM but the hole shot really sucks. I was thinking about a 21" Tempest. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Motor is 3.5 below pad
    4 batteries in rear
    3 hours on new motor
    6" Jackplate
Solid plugs or open in Tempest, no change in holeshot

The boat almost has scary lift if you keep trimming it. :)

    Thank you.

Don't vent a SHO I/My open partner tried it on his 250 SHO made things worse. I fished a lot of years in a 461VS with a 150 on it. Had the best luck with a 24 pitch. Are you getting any slip that you can tell. I would try a yamaha 24T1 its pretty hard to beat that prop on a yamaha. Try moving the plate all the way up run it down as the nose breaks over. That is if it is a hydraulic plate. IMO

I tried a Yamaha-21M prop and the hole shot was amazing (2 seconds) with full gas tanks and live wells full. Problem now is I can get to 6000 RPM's and still have throttle left at 61MPH. LOL Love the hole shot, so might lower the plate to get the RPM's down on top end. Fun Fun

Gotta say, that is a sweet looking setup you've got there. The 400 series Rangers were among the best looking boats ever built.

Thank you sir, after running 518's, 119's, 520's, etc. I decided to go back old school. :)
