    Mercury XR2 150 not going into forward or reverse

    Serial #A156909 , put new water pump impeller in it now shifter moves freely & linkage moves properly but no forward or reverse. I know something i did when installing foot back on motor. What is some things I need to be looking for, any suggestions appreciated.

    missed spline on shift shaft pull it back off

    A quick jog of the motor using the key,, I mean real fast turn of the key. Before installing the LU

    Did that to get the drive shaft splines to line up.

    Was reading the Clymers repair manual and it said to put gear case in forward gear, I did not do that does that sound right.

    Have someone hold the shift rod with needle-nose pliers, that worked for me.

    its kind of a feel thing if you push up too hard on case youll go past it ,its the last thing you line up, sometimes you have to get helper to wiggle shifter so splines line up,DO NOT FORCE IT,bend upper shaft and ya got a problem if you already haven't bent it
