    Curious about failing TM battery

I will be going out for the first time this year with a failing TM battery. The highest reading I can get from it is 10.84 and that's fresh off the winter float charger. So what should I expect? Less power? Shorter run time? Both?

To leave early wishing you would have replaced it before going fishing.

That very well could be. But I'm wondering...I bought the boat last year and it's a 2016 with the original TM battery in it. I was horribly disappointed in the TM performance. Yes, the 18ft. aluminum boat needs a 24V TM, but the 12V Maxxum was so ridiculously underpowered that I'm wondering if I didn't fish all summer/fall with a dead cell. The on-board charger always went green so I never checked voltage with a meter. And when I put it on the float charger for the winter it would go green. I just happened to check voltage and found it's low like it has one dead cell. But still green. I'm betting I was fishing at 10V all last fall. I'm was just hoping that I could keep this battery until I can afford/find an Ultrex. So I would have two new batteries with identical time on them when I upgrade.

10.84 isn’t even going to start the day.

If it's a wet cell, have you checked the water levels?

    10.84volts isn’t failing. It’s dead.

And I’m not joking as I have trouble shooted issues like this in the past. Google battery voltages and you will see what I mean.

10.84 is dead - if you put any load on it, it will be zero.

Yup, one side was a little low at the end of the year so I filled up before putting on the winter bank.

Thanks for the warning. Time to make a new plan.

    Dead battery. One cell gone.
Being a 12v, buy the absolute biggest battery you can find; you need the storage capacity.

Is it a 12V TM? If so, get two good batteries and wire them in parallel. You should never have a low battery issue.

Probably a shorted cell, it might work poorly for a while, but for all practical purposes it's junk.
