    Dobyns 806cb,805cbrm,805 Glass,804cb,764cbrm

I am looking for opinions on these rods for specific applications. Basically looking for the perfect rod for the job for an all day application. My biggest question is what is your go to rod on 5xd type bait 804cb or 764cbrm. 806 for 8xd & 10xd to throw all day and not wear you out. i currently have the 805cb but want to know how the 805cb or 805 cb glass compare for feel, power and body fatigue for 6xd,dt16,dt20, whopper plopper 130. I know a lot of people us these rods for many applications but I a looking for specifics. Thanks in advance

I throw the DT16-DT20's on the 805. For me it's the perfect rod for those baits
They don't over power the rod, and it loads up perfect
the backup rod was the 705, it get's the job done but takes more effort so I bought a 2nd 805 it's just makes fishing the deep divers so easy

I completely agree I think the 805 is a great rod I really want some feedback on the 805 glass how it compares to the 805 graphite

For the deeper crankbaits and whopper plopper 130 I use a fury 795 sb. It's great for those apps.

I throw 5xd and 6xds on a 765cbglass. I don't have/never used an 805glass, but I have used the 805cb with the same application. I prefer glass in general, so I use the 765cbglass instead of the 805cb for those types of crankbaits, but both are well suited to it. IMO, the 765cbglass is also super versatile, can be used for ploppers and spinnerbaits with great effect.

I use a 764cbrm for cranks from 3-10 feet. Works great. For anything that would dive deeper, I’m using a 706cb which also doubles as a great rod for larger surface baits. I haven’t tried a whopper plopper on it but it throws a pompadour, deps buzzjet and megabasss I-jack quite well. I’ll also be using it for an I-Loud and even trying an I-slide 135 on it this year. Should be fun!

how well does the 765glass handle the 5xd? I have a 764 cbrm but think it may be a little underpowered for 5xd. I also have the 805 and think it handles the 6xd depth baits great but think its a little too much for 5xd

It's perfect for a 5xd, and I preder it to my 806 for 6xds as well.

    For a 5xd I use a 735cb glass and for 6xd and up I use my 805cbrm.

I used the 805cbrm and loved it for 6xd sized baits but this year I went to 735 and 736 glass. I found the 8’ length resulted in only a very small adavatage in casting distance and the 7’3” glass/composite rods seem to have a wider range of effective weights, in addition to making very versatile chatter bait and large top water rods.

I agree, but I feel like both rods are essential for everyone’s arsenal especially if you fish Kentucky lake or any body of water that has deep water ledges the 8 footer makes a big difference with those 8 and 10xds

Both are great and perfect for the 5xd, just a matter of length you prefer. I throw the 8 and 10 xd on a Dobyns 794sb and really like it for that and the a rig, and glide baits.

I haven't used the 735cbglass, but my impression is that it is more like the 736cbglass which has a lot more backbone and less parabolic tip that the 765cbglass, purpose built for chatterbaits. I would stick with the longer length 765cbglass as well, and it is awesome with treble hooked baits. The 736cbglass is also an awesome rod btw, just not for this application.

I'm a huge homer towards glass crankbait rods, so I haven't used the graphite alternative, but I have heard that the glass tend to run a half power heavier than the graphite. I'm not sure myself. The 765cbglass is definitely my favoirte and most used rod. I would absolutely recommend it for 5xd/6xds/traps/ploppers/spinnerbaits/rkcrawlers/deep lil' Ns/... You get the point.

Don’t beat yourself up over it, either rod will work perfectly for your intended application. I ended up buying 4 Crankbait rods because I’m so crazy about having a bait specific rod and I wanted to make sure I had one for every application.
