It's called RTV and turns out some great molds (I have several that I made with it over the years). POP works fine and is really cheap. The next step up in inexpensive mold material is Durhams water putty. It's a lot stronger IMO than POP.

does the alumalight stuff from hobby lobby work?
I just used it to make a 2 piece jig mold. Works pretty good, it just sets up super fast so you only have about a minute to make your impression. It's not going to last long pouring lead but it'd be fine for plastics I'll bet. Look for a 30% or 40% coupon to Hobby Lobby and you'll end up paying like $20.
You can get their 40% off any one item coupon on their web page. I usually just show it to them on my phone.
