Should I Replace Tires Based on Age?

My Ranger Trailer has preformed well and the Goodyear Marathon Tires still look good. My guess is I don't have more then 5000 Miles on the tires. But the tires are now 10 years old and I am wondering if its time to replace them. Thanks

I've been replacing mine at 3 years - most of the time thats 25-30k miles. I will have to see on the Endurance if i can move that out further.

Better to change a tire than a tire and a fender because one came apart. Just saying

I change every 3 years despite wear or miles. Tire rot will ruin your trip. Make sure you replace the spare at the same time, put on a never used spare only to have it fall apart 15 miles down the road.

There's info you tube about date codes on tires, made me go out and check the ones on my truck lol. 3-5 years (stored in a garage maybe) is about as long as you wanna go like already stated.

When I bought my Endurance trailer tires, the Goodyear shop manager told me that the DOT has a requirement that all tires 10 years and older must be taken off the road.

IMO, it depends on a couple things.
    1. was the trailer stored in a shaded controlled temp area?
    2. can you see any cracking in the rubber, anywhere?

I know guys that run their racecar on tires that are 6 years old and more. Tires were stored indoors in a controlled environment out of the sun.

Just today I had 4 new Goodyear Endurance tires put on (plus spare). The Goodyears they took off were from 2004. My boat is stored indoors, climate controlled and I don't put that many miles on my tires. Why would a tire have to be changed just because it's 3 years old? I'm sure there are other factors involved other than age. I've never had a tire blow out, or a fender damaged as a result of a bad tire.

I was told by Ranger and Carlilse that a ST tire on a trailer starts to loose significant sidewall strength in 3 years. Discount Tire only warrants their ST tires for 3 years but they are in the business to sale tires.

Even if your tires show little sign of wear, keep in mind that they “break down due to moisture and chemicals from the inside out,”

Absolutely replace! BAD things happen when you have a blowout not only to your trailer but also to oncoming. Vehicles. Ask me how I know!
